Kenya’s National Assembly deputy speaker Moses Cheboi was put to task by lawmakers to explain the whereabouts of speaker Justin Muturi.
Muturi’s failure to turn up for a special session on Wednesday triggered debate among lawmakers as they demanded to know where he is.
“I’m worried about our speaker’s whereabouts… We’ve been reading online that the speaker is under some kind of spell somewhere.” “How safe is our speaker?” passed MP William Kamket.
In his response, Mr. Cheboi refused to provide details and instead noted nothing is wrong with the speaker.
“The speaker has several other responsibilities, and today he is attending to one of them,” said the Kuresoi Member of Parliament.
Reports from the speaker allies show that Muturi is in a private residence where he will be subjected to a strict cultural regimen for the next seven days to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt. Kenya kingpin.
During the event, he is expected to consume only certain foods, bathe in a certain way, and refrain from coitus during this period.
His coronation comes few two months after he was crowned the region’s spokesman.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
