Webuye West Member of Parliament Daniel Sitati Wanyama has been elected to chair the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture.

In its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, the Committee also elected MP James Wamacukuru as the vice chairperson.

The newly elected chairperson has previously served as the Secretary-General for Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVBF). His acceptance speech highlighted his in-depth understanding of the critical issues that should be addressed in the Sports fraternity.

“Having been a sportsman all my life, I can assure you that I understand the areas which need our immediate attention as a committee. Top among these being the FIFA Ban on Kenyan football,” said MP Wanyama.

He promised to address the state of sports affairs in the country, following concerns raised by a section of the members of the Committee who stated that Kenya risks losing its globally recognized accolades in sports.

Wanyama also promised to look at the state of athletics, with doping and the defecting of our athletes to other countries being among the issues that have rocked athletics in the country.
