MPS Ndindi Nyoro, Emaase Elected To Lead Budget & Appropriations Committee

Lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro has been elected chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Appropriations.

Also elected is the legislator Mary Emaase as the Vice Chairperson in the hotly contested race with MP Babu Owino. The elections were held in accordance with standing order 179 (6) on November 3, 2022.

In his acceptance remarks, Nyoro thanked the MPs for electing him unanimously.

"It is an honour to serve in this committee. We are in a difficult situation as a country due to our high debt level, and so we have a lot of work; to make a budget that reflects our ability to allocate revenue," Nyoro said.

While affirming their readiness to serve Kenyans, the chairperson also stated that they will work in cohesion and have a united consultative approach as a committee.

"We have rigorous work, and we are prepared to work for Kenyans as a team without any regard to our party affiliations," he said.

On her part, the elected Vice chairperson Mary Emaase assured the committee of her full support for the chairperson and urged the legislators to embrace teamwork to achieve their mandate as expected by Kenyans.

" We need to remain focused as a Committee as we are expected to play a key role in revenue legislation," she said.
