The National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi appeared in public on Wednesday after he went missing for some days.
On Wednesday morning, lawmakers raised concerns of his whereabouts, demanding an explanation from his deputy Moses Cheboi.
Addressing the media from his home, Mr. Muturi confirmed the cultural ritual that has kept him in seclusion.
He has been undergoing a cleansing process ahead of his coronation as the Mt. Kenya region spokesman after President Uhuru Kenyatta retires next year.
During this ritual process, he can only take some food, keep away from sexual intercourse and see a few elders who have gone through cleansing.
“It has been a great moment for self-reflection and also to consider the issues that affect our region… There will be all forms of opinions but the idea is to be able to reach out to everybody through persuasion, consultation and discussion,” said Muturi.
Muturi’s coronation will take place on Saturday, May 22, 2021.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
