Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has joined fellow Kenyans and global leaders in expressing her sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
She described him as a beacon of democracy and a relentless advocate for human rights and good governance.
In a heartfelt statement, Ngilu conveyed her shock and sadness at the news of Odinga’s death in Kerala, India, where he had been undergoing Ayurvedic treatment.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden and untimely passing of former PM Raila Amolo Odinga. We have lost a true pillar of democracy and a champion for human rights and good governance. His leadership was focused on improving our country for everyone. My heartfelt condolences go out to Mama Ida and the entire Jaramogi family. May his soul find eternal peace. Farewell, my friend,” Ngilu expressed.
Raila Odinga, who passed away at the age of 80, served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and played a crucial role in the introduction of the 2010 Constitution, which brought about devolution and enhanced public participation in governance. Ngilu and Odinga shared a long political journey, both having been part of the Grand Coalition Government and advocating for social justice, inclusivity, and national unity.
