Pre-Swearing Ceremony Held In The Main Parliament Building

The Senate of Kenya on Wednesday conducted a pre-swearing-in exercise of the 47 Senators elected following their gazettement on August 24, 2022.

The exercise was conducted by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr Jeremiah Nyegenye, CBS, within the main Parliament Buildings.

The orientation exercise, which began at 9 am, was in preparation for the swearing-in of the Senators and, after that, the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker on September 8, 2022, at the Senate Chambers.

The 13th Parliament will be convening for the first time after the general election and will be expected to elect the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the August House.

Interested persons for election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly were expected to return their nomination papers and attendant documents at Committee Room 7 from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

The duly elected Senators were required to carry an original National ID or Passport, IEBC Certificate of Election, Bio-data/Curriculum Vitae and Copy of the KRA certificate.
