President Uhuru Kenyatta Sent Kemsa Board Of Directors Packing

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked the Kenya Medical Supplies Authorities (Kemsa) Board of Directors.

In a Gazette Notice dated April 28, the Head of State appointed Mary Chao Mwadime as the board chairperson, revoking chair James Kembi Gitura, who was in early March moved to the Communication Authority of Kenya.

“I have appointed Mary Chao Mwadime as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority for a period of three years with effect from April 30, 2021,” said President Kenyatta in the gazette notice.

In the same Gazette notice, the country’s Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe appointed the other four board members.

The appointees are Capt, (Rtd) Lawrence Wahome, Robert Nyarango, Terry Kiunge Ramadhani and Lincoln Nyaga Kinyua as members of the Board of Directors KEMSA for a period of 3 years.

Meanwhile, the appointment of Timothy Mwololo, Bibiana K Njue, Joel Onsare Gesuka and Dorothy Atieno Aywak were revoked.

These changes come in the wake of graft allegations facing Kemsa. The authority is alleged to have involved in the multi-billion shillings scandal related to Covid-19 supplies.
