President William Ruto has congratulated Botswana’s President-Elect, Duma Boko, on his recent victory in a historic election.
The victory of Boko has been celebrated throughout the continent as a significant democratic turning point, ending the Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) nearly 60 years of uninterrupted dominance and a change in the country’s political landscape.
President Ruto praised Boko’s big victory in his congratulatory message, characterizing it as a “clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the Botswana people have in his leadership, vision, and dedication to advancing Botswana’s development and prosperity.”
The Kenyan leader added that Boko’s victory symbolizes the will of the Batswana people, who have trusted him to lead the country to greater progress and togetherness.
Ruto also expressed hope about the future of Kenya-Botswana relations under Boko’s leadership. President Ruto emphasized the two countries’ long-standing connections based on shared principles and a commitment to regional peace and prosperity.
He stated that the partnership between Kenya and Botswana would continue to thrive under Boko’s leadership, fostering greater cooperation and providing practical advantages to both nations.
“I am confident that under your guidance, this partnership will continue to flourish, fostering deeper ties that benefit both our peoples and contribute to regional stability and prosperity,” said Ruto.
Duma Boko, the recently elected President of Botswana and leader of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), registered a historic victory, signalling a shift in Botswana’s political landscape and laying the groundwork for new policies targeted at economic diversification and inclusive growth.
