The Kenya Senate will conduct a special sitting on Monday, June 26, to consider the findings of a special committee appointed to probe Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol after his impeachment by the Siaya county assembly.
“NOTICE is given to all Senators that pursuant to standing order 33 (1) of the Senate Standing Orders, on the request of the Senate Majority Leader and with the support of the requisite number of Senators, I have appointed Monday, June 26, 2023, as a day for a special sitting of the Senate,” read a notice issued by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
The session will take place in the afternoon from 2:30pm.
Oduol was forced out of office after the county assembly’s 42 members overwhelmingly approved his dismissal for suspected egregious misconduct and abuse of office.
The Siaya County Assembly members claimed Oduol purchased a chair for Ksh1.12 million ($8047) and was involved in many other transactions totalling approximately Ksh18 million ($129321).
Appearing before the Senate Special Committee, Oduol denied the allegations against him.
