Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has called on the Luhya community to rally behind the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

Speaking in Bungoma town, western Kenya, CS Wamalwa said electing Odinga would pave the way for their kinsmen because he will serve for only one term due to his age.

MPs Wafula Wamunyinyi and Eseli Simiyu accompanied Wamalwa.

They dismissed calls to have the Luhya community back deputy president William Ruto’s candidature.

“As the Luhya community, we should choose which route is easy in the succession politics. Odinga is old and will only serve one term; if we are loyal, it is easy for us to be in the main succession politics,” said CS Wamalwa.

The trio ditched the Ford Kenya party and recently formed Democratic Action Party-Kenya. They blamed wrangles in the former outfit for their move.

“When I saw my brothers Eseli and Wamunyunyi quarrelling with Wetang’ula, I saw the need to separate brothers; that is why I invited them to join hands and form DAP-K,” added Wamalwa.

He said the party will work with Azimio La Umoja in the spirit of supporting the handshake.

The CS lashed out at Ford Kenya Moses Wetang’ula for weighing options on who to support between Odinga and Ruto.

“They should be like us who have shown a firm stand, you cannot be with President during the day and his deputy at night,” he noted.

MP Wamunyinyi revealed that they parted ways with Wetang’ula because he was coercing them to throw their weight behind the deputy president.
