23-year-old Lewis Jones charged with sexual assault of 6-year-old girl in Greater Manchester

A 23-year-old man who allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl in Greater Manchester has been charged.

Lewis Jones has been charged with two counts of sexual assaults by penetration and one count of abduction.

He has been remanded in custody and will attend Manchester and Salford Magistrates court on Saturday.

Police said Jones abducted the girl on Warne Avenue, Droylsden, Greater Manchester and took her into the woods near a disused railway track.

A short time later, the girl was reunited with her family.

Jones has been remanded in custody and will attend Manchester and Salford Magistrate Court today, Saturday, 20 August 2022.

Jones was charged after police released a third image of him to the public for assistance.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt of GMP's Ashton CID said, "I'd like to commend the victim for her immense bravery in assisting police officers with our investigation; she is receiving support from specialist officers and partners at this really distressing time.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing with significant resources, and I would like to reassure the community, and as a precautionary measure, we have extra police officers and PCSOs out and about.

"We would once again like to thank members of the public for their assistance in this investigation and for engaging with our appeals."
