Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage boy was stabbed to death in Islington.

The police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 00:12 hrs on Tuesday, 22 October, to a possible collision at Courtauld Road.

The teenager, identified as 16-year-old Deonte Mowatt-Slater, was found with serious stab injuries.

Despite the medics’ best efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Investigator Neil John said the police were in the early stages of the investigation. “At this point, it is unclear exactly where Deonte was when he suffered his injury.”

According to the detective, Deonte was “found injured on Courtauld Road along with his motorcycle.”

“We are working hard to establish the sequence of events that led to this tragic loss of a young life, the Chief Inspector said, adding, “I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed or has footage of any part of this incident.

A number of crime scenes remain in place while the police continue investigations.

Neil added, Today, a family has received the worst possible news – if you have information about this incident, please do the right thing and get in touch.”

Chief Superintendent Andy Carter, leading policing in Islington, expressed sadness that another young life was lost on the street while extending his thoughts to the family of the victim.

Andy said, “My officers are supporting our Specialist Crime colleagues, and local people will notice a more visible police presence in the area in the coming days to provide reassurance.

“If you have concerns please do approach officers or contact your Neighbourhoods Policing team.”

Deonte’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

No arrest has been made at the time of this report.
