A man has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his wife, Anna Maria Murariu, in Ealing, following a meticulous Metropolitan Police investigation that led to a conviction at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 September.

Mugurel Nica, 51, of Jubilee Road, Perivale, was convicted of murdering his 46-year-old wife after a seven-day trial.

The court heard how Anna Maria suffered a fatal stabbing in a case that has underscored the devastating toll of domestic violence.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of 28 February, when police were alerted by a 999 call to a residence on Jubilee Road at 1:40am.

Officers arrived to find Anna Maria with severe stab wounds. Despite their desperate attempts to save her through CPR, and the efforts of paramedics who followed, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nica was arrested immediately and charged with murder on 1 March.

Detective Inspector Richard Kempshall, who led the investigation, reflected on the profound loss felt by Anna Maria’s family. “No conviction can undo the pain of losing a mother, but I hope this verdict offers her children and loved ones a path toward healing,” he said. “They have shown remarkable courage in the face of unimaginable grief.”

Kempshall highlighted the case as a stark warning about the dangers of domestic abuse. “Anna Maria was trapped in a toxic relationship that ended in her death,” he noted. “Her story should serve as a call to anyone suffering in silence to reach out for help.”

He also commended the dedication of first responders who fought to save Anna Maria and the relentless work of the investigation and prosecution teams in securing justice.

The case has left a deep mark on all involved, with Kempshall describing it as an honour to represent Anna Maria’s family alongside a committed team.

Nica is due to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 2 October, when the court will determine the consequences of his actions.

As Ealing mourns, this heartbreaking case serves as a grim reminder of the need to confront domestic violence and support those in need.
