According to a police statement, the officer breached the standards of professional behaviour regarding honesty and integrity, leading to gross misconduct.

Met police initiated an investigation after receiving a penalty charge for an unmarked police car driving down Longbridge Road, a prohibited zone for vehicles.

While examining the details, officers discovered that Anwar had altered the car’s logbook to throw them off his trail.

He attempted to frame another police officer by making the logbook look like another officer was driving the vehicle at the time.

Anwar was questioned, but he failed to admit that he drove the unmarked police vehicle at the time of the offence.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford from the local policing team in East London stated that “PC Anwar’s actions fell well below the standards we expect of our officers. He had plenty of opportunities to be honest about the incident; instead, he tried to cover his tracks by accusing another colleague.

The honesty and integrity of our officers are key to the public being able to trust the police, and we will not tolerate dishonest behaviour in the Met.”

Anwar will be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies (PCCs), the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
