Six people, including the gunman, died in the firearm incident in Plymouth; Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement.
The incident happened in the Keyham region of Plymouth on Thursday evening at around 6 pm.
The victims include two women, two men and a 10-year-old child were killed at the scene on Biddick Drive.
Another man, suspected to be the gunman, was also found dead. He is believed to have shot himself after the attack, but this is yet to be confirmed by the police.
Several reports indicated that a 10-year-old child is among those who died in the incident.
All six died from gun injuries, and their next of kin have been informed by the Devon and Cornwall Police officers.
According to an eyewitness reported by Skynews, “the gunman was dressed in black and started shooting after kicking down the door of a house.”
He then turned the gun at random people as he ran away, another eyewitness narrated.
The police have confirmed that the incident is not terror-related.
The phones and computers of the gunman are expected to be examined by the investigators.
The area is still condoned as residents complained of not being able to return to their homes.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, expressed sadness over “the loss of life in Plymouth”.
He tweeted on Thursday evening, “Deeply saddened by the loss of life in Plymouth this evening. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and the emergency service workers responding to this tragic incident.”
BBC quotes an Eyewitness, Sharron, a nearby neighbour who described the incident as “horrendous and so sad”.
She was quoted as saying, “Firstly, there was shouting, followed by gunshots – three possibly four to begin with.”
“This was when the shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started shooting. He ran from the house shooting as he ran and proceeded to shoot at a few people in the linear park up from the drive.”
She said the “shooter proceeded along Royal Navy Avenue still shooting”.
Another eyewitness, Robert Pinkerton, who came face to face with the gunman, according to the BBC, said, “I
“walked around the corner” and “bumped into a bloke with a shotgun”.
He confirmed the gunman was dressed in black.
Other casualties of the incident are still receiving treatment in the hospital, a local MP, Luke Pollard, said.
He told Times Radio that the information about the incident was a bit “confused” as police are still urging witnesses to come forward.
“It seems that after six o’clock yesterday, a shooting began that was in Biddick Drive. We understand that has spread out over a wider area in the community.
“The police cordon is over quite a substantial part of the community, and we will need to find out more from the police later today,” he said.
MP Pollard told Sky News that “We’ll sadly hear more grim news today when the police start issuing more information about their sense of the timeline of events, what happened where and when, but most importantly who the victims are and what happened in the events yesterday.”
