A sword-wielding man has stabbed a teenager to death in Hainault, east London.

According to reports, the 14-year-old boy was just stepping out of the house on his way to school when the attacker, hiding the sword behind him, stabbed him to death unprovoked. 

The incident which shocked the Thurlow Gardens area happened around 07:00hrs on Tuesday, 30 April 2024. 

Police were called after the sword man drove his vehicle into a house in the area before stabbing five people. Among the injured are two police officers.

The attacker is a 36-year-old man arrested at the scene and currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Police officers confirmed that the attacker is in the hospital and yet to be questioned as he sustained an injury after being tased by the police.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said: “This must have been a terrifying incident for those concerned.

“I know the wider community will be feeling shock and alarm.

“People will want to know what has happened, and will we provide more information as soon as we can.”

Police say the attack is not a threat to the wider community, and no other person is sought in connection to the attack. Officers also confirmed that the attack was not terror-related.

Hainault Tube station in Ilford has been closed by police after the incident.
