Alexandrina Mitkova, 19, has been sentenced to two years’ detention in a young offender institution.
The teenager who attempted to rob an 84-year-old woman in Enfield in October appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, 10 December.
Mitkova of no fixed address had previously pleaded guilty to attempted robbery.
The incident happened around 11:45hrs on Monday, 19 October outside shops in London Road, Enfield.
Mitkova approached the 84-year-old victim from behind on her way home and grabbed her handbag.
She fought with her victim, pushing her on the chest until she fell into the road and hit her knee. With the force, a strap from the bag was broken.
Investigators said many passers-by witnesses stepped in to assist the victim and detained Mitkova at the scene until the police arrived.
The police charged her on 20 October and have been remanded in custody since then.
Investigating officer from North Area Robbery Unit, Pc Billy Crosby said “This was a violent attack on a vulnerable elderly lady who was merely walking home from the shops. Despite sustaining injuries I am pleased that she has now recovered and I hope she is able to move on with her life.
“I would like to pay tribute to the members of the public who intervened, assisting the victim and detaining the suspect. Mitkova may never have been brought to justice without their brave actions.”©Standard Gazette, 2021.
