Two persons tied to the sweets thought to contain an active substance in Cannabis have been arrested.
17 girls from La Sainte Union Catholic Schol in Highgate, Camden were taken to the hospital after eating the sweets.
London Ambulance Service called the police to the incident on Monday at about 11.45 am to the Catholic School.
The 17 girls who were said to have consumed the sweet were taken to hospital as a precaution, the police disclosed in a statement.
The police said a 41-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in connection to the incident and in possession of cannabis and child neglect (exposure to harm).
He was taken to a north London police station where he was later released on bail.
The following day, Thursday 8 October, a 24-year-old woman was arrested for a similar reason.
She is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
DailyMail reports that parents were warned about cannabis edibles that resemble the sweets the children consumed.
The sweets were believed to have contained tetrahydrocannabinol known as THC, an active substance in cannabis.
Initially, 13 girls were reported to have taken the sweets, but the police said another four became unwell and as a precaution, were all taken to Barnet Hospital.
According to the Met, the THC sweets were designed to look like Nerds Rope Sweets, which can be bought online.
On Monday, the school referred media requests to Camden council which said in a statement: “A small number of our students have been taken to hospital today after becoming ill.
“The students became ill after eating what they believed were sweets. The contents of what the students ate and how they came into possession of them is being investigated by the police.
“We have made parents aware of this incident.
