After 27 years of marriage, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have called it a quit.
The couple announced their divorce via Twitter, saying, “We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple.”
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.”
Bill Gates met his wife in the 1980s when she gained employment in Bill’s Microsoft firm.
Since then, the duo has invested in battling infectious diseases and children vaccination across the globe.
The fourth richest man, according to Forbes, is worth $124bn (£89bn).
The couple posted their divorce on Twitter.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” the statement reads.
“We asked for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
In 1987, Melinda, now 56, joined Microsoft as a product manager, and their relationships blossom from there.
In 1994, the couple got married on the Hawaiian Island of Lanai, booking up all the local helicopters to stop unwanted guest flying over.
In 2020, Bill gate stepped down from Microsoft’s board to concentrate on his philanthropic mission.
