A lone gunman has attacked a gay club in the United States, killing five people on Saturday and injuring at least 18.

Officers said they received a call about an active shooter at the Club Q at 23:57 in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs Police said the number of casualties might change as many are currently in the hospital receiving treatment.

The Club released a statement via its Facebook on Saturday over the attack. The post said, “we are devasted by the senseless attack on our community,” while thanking the brave people who “subdued” the gunman.

“The quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack,” the Club thanked the brave customers.

The police said the gunman is in custody and receiving treatment for his injuries.

It is unclear why the gunman attacked the gay Club, but the suspect was inside the Club when the police arrived.
