In a comprehensive and damning Senate floor speech lasting over thirty minutes, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has laid out a methodical month-by-month account of what he terms “nuclear-grade-corruption” characterising the first 500 days of President Donald Trump’s second term.
The Senator presented a detailed timeline of alleged misconduct, accusing the President and his administration of turning the White House into a “24/7 corruption operation” designed to enrich themselves and their allies at the expense of America.
Senator Murphy opened his address by framing the issue as an unprecedented national crisis, warning that theadministration’s strategy is to overwhelm the public with so many scandals that corruption becomes normalised.

“The president’sgoal is to engage in so much corruption, so much self-enrichment, to hand out so many favours to his friends, his family and his political allies, that it just becomes the pitter patter of rain. It’s normal.
It’s never-ending. Trump bets that if there is a new story of corruption, of self-dealing every few days, that the press will stop covering it, or the public will just stop paying attention.”
He argued that his moment is historically exceptional, stating, “No president, in the history of this country, has done what Donald Trump has done. No president has done 5% of the self-dealing that Donald Trump has done in the last year and a half.”
The Senator began his timeline on April 7, 2025, with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s decision to terminate several Biden-era Justice Department investigations into crypto companies.
Senator Murphy highlighted a significant conflict of interest, noting that Blanche held up a $500,000 in crypto investment at the time and subsequently eliminated the entire enforcement team dedicated to rooting out crypto-related fraud.
Later that month, on April 30, the Senator pointed to a decision by the Department of Agriculture to reverse a rule limiting Salmonella bacteria in poultry products.
He alleged this was a “pay for play” scheme linked to Pilgrims Pride, a major poultry company that donated $5 million to Trump’s inauguration. “They made a donation to Trump that was bigger than practically any other company.. and after they made the donation, they asked for one thing – the reversal of the Salmonella rule. And they got it,” Murphy stated.
On May 27, Senator Murphy cited the pardon of Paul Walczak, a man convicted of stealing millions from employees at his nursing home.
According to Murphy, Walczak’s mother paid $1 million for a face-to-face meeting with the President, and three weeks later, her son received a full pardon that even relieved him of the obligation to repay the $4.4 million he had stolen from his employees. This is a new pay-for-pardons scheme that begins in May,” Senator Murphy declared.
In June, it was revealed that senior aide Stephen Miller held up to $250,000 in stock in the data analytics company Palantir. Senator Murphy noted that just a month prior, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, which Miller oversees, awarded a $30 million no-bid contract to the same company.
Murphy stated, “Miller overseeing ICE. ICE gives a no-bid contract to Palantir. The investigators in Palantir, which include Stephen Miller, get rich.”
The Senator raised serious national security concerns regarding an event on September 18. He alleged that President Trump made $57 million selling crypto tokens to entities associated with the regimes in North Korea, Iran, and Russia.
“It begs the question as we are currently debating an Iran deal that basically exists on Iran’s terms, why was there a flood of money from Iranian regime-backed entities into the Trump crypto companies? Why were they putting that investment in? What did they expect to get from the president?” Murphy asked.
Just a week later, on September 23, Senator Murphy claimed the administration closed a criminal FBI inquiry into Border Czar Tom Homan.
He alleged that Homan had been caught on video accepting $50,000 in cash from undercover agents in exchange for government contracts. “But the administration…just makes the investigation go away because that kind of bribery, that kind of naked graft, is okay in this White House,” Murphy asserted.
On October 7, the Senator highlighted the pardon of Changpeng Zhao, the founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, who had been convicted for allowing criminal activity on his platform.
Senator Murphy noted that Zhao had also helped President Trump launch his own crypto business. “This is a guy who built a company that allowed terrorists and sex predators to engage in private financing. He went to jail. He got out of jail because he agreed to help Trump get rich,” Murphy stated.
While the 500-day timeline focused on specific events, Senator Murphy has consistently warned about broader patterns of influence, particularly involving foreign nations.
In previous speeches, he has detailed what he describes as a corrupt relationship with the United Arab Emirates.
In a February 2026 speech, Murphy outlined a “stunning” secret deal where a UAE investment firm purchased a 49% stake in the Trump family’s crypto venture, World Liberty Financial, for %500 million just days before the inauguration.
He alleged this was followed by the administration approving the sale of highly sensitive AI chips to the UAE, ignoring bipartisan national security concerns. “The White House has become a non-stop corruption machine. Never, ever before in the history of the country has the president of the United States so openly, so brazenly, so consistently worked to use the immense power of the presidency to enrich himself,” Murphy said on that occasion.
He further claimed that this was part of a pattern where the UAE, through entities linked to its National Security Advisor, made investments to curry favour, including a $2 billion investment in Binance using Trump’s cryptocurrency.
In a separate speech from June 2025, Murphy also highlighted Trump’s request for a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, calling it “the most brazenly corrupt act in the history of the American presidency” and an illegal violation of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.
Senator Murphy concluded his 500-day address by dismissing the notion that such corruption is normal in politics, asserting, “Senators – Republican and Democrats do not trade our votes for cash or for political contributions.
“We don’t run side hustles like crypto companies. Senators don’t give contracts to their kids just because we can.”
He reminded the Senate of its duty, stating, “The government of the United States does not exist to make Donald Trump rich. It belongs to the American people.”
